100 Men Hall
The 100 Men Hall commissioned visual artists Wendo and JoLean Barkley to paint a mural that represents a visual storyboard of the hall's history. The mural is a gift to the residents of Bay Saint Louis in the form of public art and helps to promote the Hall's rich history within the African American community.
This project is made possible in part by a grant from the Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area and a partial matching grant from the Puffin Foundation. Their funding supports one of the cornerstones of the Hall's mission: to tell a more nuanced story of African American resistance and resilience in the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
New Orleans artist Wendo and native Bay Saint Louis JoLean have backgrounds in design and fine art. Their work displays a variety of themes and motifs unique to the spaces in which they inhabit. Their work has been shown in New Orleans, Texas, South Korea, and the Philippines.

"George Ohr" by Zach DePolo
George Edgar Ohr (1857-1918), the “Mad Potter of Biloxi”, was an artist with a vision that was ahead of his time. Although active from 1879 until around 1910, it was not until his pottery was rediscovered half a century after his death that Ohr began to enjoy the reputation he felt he deserved. Ohr studied under Joseph Fortune Meyer, of Newcomb College Art Pottery, and moved freely between New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi for much of his career. Through his association with Meyer and extensive travels to attend fairs and expositions, Ohr was exposed to some of the best work of the Arts & Crafts movement and the American Renaissance. His work, however, would evolve technique in a way that set him apart from his contemporaries.
